Mayor Karen Anderson has proposed her office hours for Wednesdays from 9:00 am to noon and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm although arrangements for meetings at other times can be accommodated.

Meetings At A Glance!
Monday, March 8, 2010 7pm - Council Meeting

Council meetings take place in the District Council Chambers at 7:00 pm on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The public is welcome to attend and may ask questions towards the end of the meetings.

Members of the public may also come to speak as a delegation during the meeting by submitting the following form to the District Office for approval on the Wednesday prior to the meeting date.

On occasion the public meeting may be followed by an In-Camera meeting that is closed to the public as it is dealing with issues relating to labour, land or law.

Municipal Elections are held every 3 years on the third Saturday in November.

Who is qualified to vote?

  1. Canadian Citizens
  2. 18 years by General Election Day
  3. Residents of BC for six months
  4. Residents of Hudson’s Hope for 30 days

• Submit a letter, e-mail or fax to Council.
Your comments will be sent to the appropriate department for either a report to Council or a direct response to you.

• If a report is required, the matter will be placed on the Committee of the Whole Agenda and you will be notified by phone abut the date of the meeting.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

I would like to thank you for the support I received on November 15th. I am truly grateful to be elected as Mayor of this caring community. The large voter turnout shows that the citizens of this community care and are interested in the welfare of Hudson's Hope. I look forward to the challenge with eagerness and also some anxiety.

Please do not hesitate to voice your concerns to the new Council, you elected us, and now we are here to listen and address these concerns.

PROPERTY TAXES / HOME OWNER GRANTS/ UTILITIES

The 2009 Property Tax Notices have been mailed. The due date to pay your taxes without penalty is on or before Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 at 4:30 pm. If you have not received your notice by Monday, June 1st, please call Rhonda Eastman at the District Office 783-9901. To claim the Homeowner Grant fill out the reverse side of the tear off portion. The form must be completely filled in and signed. Bring it in or mail it to the District Office. It’s that easy to claim your Homeowner Grant. We will do all the rest of the work on your behalf. Even if you aren’t paying the taxes, take advantage of lowering the penalty amount that will be assessed by claiming the Homeowner Tax portion of the tax statement (if eligible). Be sure to do this prior to the July 2nd deadline .

Bylaws

The District of Hudson’s Hope enacts local bylaws that are the similar to provincial and federal laws. The bylaws which are designed to make Hudson’s Hope an enjoyable, safe place to live and covers such topics as a noise, zoning, and animal control. In order for a bylaw to become law, it must go through three readings and approval.

Draft bylaws are discussed at Council meetings and are available for public inspection at the District office. Council welcomes input.

Annual Report
According to the Community Charter, an annual municipal report must be prepared by June 30 each year. Based on a strategic planning session, the report contains financial and operational information that provide the objectives of Council thus enabling all to monitor the progress of the municipality. Inside facts about Hudson's Hope

The District of Hudson’s Hope won 3rd place in the Turn It Off Challenge in 2007.  We reduced our energy consumption by 28%.

 

Reginald Shaw, better know as Uncle Dudley, arrived in Hudson’s Hope in 1907.  Our present day town mascot “Dudley the Dinosaur” is named after Dudley Shaw.
