The Environmental Advisory Committee

Did you know that you can recycle your CFC light bulbs, old cell phones and
any rechargeable batteries at the District Office?

We have now also started a new program and have a wooden box where you can now drop off any non-rechargeable batteries!

Instead of throwing these items in the trash, why don’t you bring them
down to the District office for recycling?

When you first walk into the District Office, before going up the stairs, you will see a plastic garbage can where you can drop off the light bulbs, a cardboard box that you can drop off the rechargeable batteries and cell phones, and a wooden box where you can drop off the non-rechargeable batteries.  These drop boxes are all labelled for your convenience.

MAYORS REPORT- Mayor Karen Anderson

This month there are many people who should be mentioned for their hard work and help in showcasing Hudson’s Hope. Any event that is held in this community is a benefit to our tourism and local economy.

Thank-you to all the volunteers who succeeded in making the Fishing Derby, Ball Tournament, Strawberry Festival and High School Rodeo successful. These events bring people and dollars into our community.

Congratulations to Jake Watson and Hayden Huxley who won their events in the Provincial High School Rodeo held in Merritt BC early this month. They will now represent BC in the National High School Rodeo to be held in Gillette, Wyoming in mid July. Kyla Fettes and Kayla Gonwick also won the right to participate in the Merritt rodeo, although they didn’t place in the top three, they had good rides. Due to a broken ankle, Ricky Warren was unable to ride but he had an excellent year.

Thanks to Luke Middleton for bringing the Allan Cup to Hudson’s Hope. The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded to the national senior amateur men’s hockey champions. The children very much enjoyed the chance to see and hear about the history of this trophy that has been around since 1908.

Guess who is 99 years old this month, yes, Ethel Rutledge. Happy Birthday to a wonderful lady. It was so great to see Ethel and Beth Ardill at the Strawberry Festival. I am reminded of the saying “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years”. I am sure this saying was made just for Ethel and Beth.

Council has had one workshop relating to the proposed Site C dam and will continue to follow the progress of this project. Council is committed to making the negotiations as transparent as possible and will only accept what is positive for our community’s
well-being and future.

Happy Canada Day, to everyone! With all the unrest in the world it is wonderful that we live in Canada! Let’s be thankful for being a Canadian. Enjoy the day, and I hope to see everyone at the Canada Day Picnic in the Park.

Air Horn Testing

If, and that is a big “if”, we ever had to sound the horns there would lots of advance warning and they would be sounded for a much longer period of time. If you would like to hear the difference between the air horn and the fire siren please click below to listen live.

Inside facts about Hudson's Hope
In construction of the WAC Bennett Dam, a conveyor belt which was 4.8 kilometres long, moved glacial moraine material which was used to form the base of the dam. It was the longest conveyor belt during the time the dam was being built.

Reginald Shaw, better know as Uncle Dudley,
arrived in Hudson’s Hope in 1907. Our present
day dinosaur town mascot “Dudley” is named
after Dudley Shaw.
